Meal Support recovery group

30/9/2013

Achieving a mindset of recovery and then maintaining it to continue the path to being well again involves eating! Sounds obvious doesn't it. However it involves a number of aspects. It involves establishing an eating pattern that has been summarised and explained as RAVES.
R  = Regularity
A = Adequacy
V= Variety
E= Eating socially
S= Spontaneity
This process will take time, trust and courage to develop and you may need to concentrate on one aspect more closely than another at different times and a number of them simultaneously.
The Advanced Recovery Group .. where we will share a meal in a local restaurant aims to support people who are working particularly on E and V.. .
Have a listen to Australian dietician Shane Jeffrey who explains the importance of RAVES to recovery from an Eating Disorder.

Saying Farewell

1/9/2013

On Monday I said farewell to my son who has decided to go to the UK for an indefinite period of time. AS any mum would be, I am filled with mixed emotions of excitement for the possibilities he has before him and of sadness in not knowing when I will see him next. Jacob is a singer and has decided to pursue his career overseas. I have watched his talent develop and his determination and resolve it give it all "He's got!"..
I have also seen him deal with highs and lows.  The high of performing and the lows of unsuccessful auditions. What has struck me is the incredible resilience performers in the arts develop and the ownership of ones own destiny. The decision and strength to keep going.
We need to adopted the same attitude to beating an Eating Disorder.  Take control of our own destiny , move forward , grow and believe in your true self.
I also promised to post links to other sessions of the At Home with Eating Disorders Conference and here they are .

Spring has sprung!!

1/9/2013

What a glorious day to begin our Spring Season!!  Spring brings with it so many possibilities for growth and hope.  Recovery is possible for everyone who seeks it with a passion. The process might be difficult and challenging but the end result will bring you so much joy.  You will be able to notice the spring bulbs, feel the warmth of sunlight and see the blue skies. You will be able  to take some control in planning a future, your future!  I have meet some very inspiring people who HAVE recovered from an Eating disorder and you know what, ..~! they have sunshine shining from them.. ! How do you recover? ... Take one step, one meal at a time... when you are unsure... asking yourself.. Can I eat this? Have I eaten too much? Do I need to get rid of what I've consumed.. ? Stop... reach into your recovery bank or toolkit... bring to mind someone you TRUST and ask yourself what advice or answer would they give to you.. or ... what would you say to yourself if you could truly be your own best friend. ? You are worthy of recovery, you deserve it and you can d
