Felicity Ogilvie, ABC, has completed a story on eating disorders and adult services. ABC TV 7.30 tonight and was a radio interview piece this morning on AM.
I was lucky this week to travel to the North West Coast of Tasmania and see once again those most beautiful fields, of chocolate. The earth looks so rich and soft and the colour was sensational. I really wanted to stop the car, jump the fence and roll in the smooth ground. I didn't because I am a sensible person who doesn't want to be arrested or worse!! How wonderful is this earth that nourishes us? Our bodies and our spirits... Beating an eating disorder is like re-gaining that balance with what naturally nourishes us. Finding that healthy relationship with people, food, art, nature, music that inspires us to be fully human. Don't hold back or be afraid, there is so much to take pleasure and delight in and you deserve to be part of it.
Did anyone else hear the piece this morning on the ABC about the appalling level of funding to Eating Disorder Treatment in our state? It is one thing to spend time planning to implement something... less meetings more action I say...
On the ground, better recognition of the illness in all its forms by GP's would be a good start. Then maybe some real early intervention would decrease the need for hospital admissions... The saddest thing I hear is when someone says "I have been ill since I was 12, or 13, or 14" and they are now 30, or 40 or 50! Early treatment is essential for long term recovery... AND recovery is possible even if you have been ill for a long time.... it is just harder. TRED is a charity run by volunteers. Any donation above $2 is tax deductible. Help us make a difference... do I sound like I am begging? TRED is now into it's second year and we still have work to do in supporting people in their recovery from Eating Disosrders. I am interested to hear from people who are recovered and might consider taking on a role as a mentor... It is so important to know that others have recovered and to learn from them about how they achieved recovery. So if you fit into this category, please contact me. I really would like to make contact with people in the north of the State.
Take care... |
