I meet so many courageous people who have lived with an Eating Disorder, sometimes for a number of years, who say "I've had enough!" Then they make the bold move of attending a support group. Sometimes the group can be 5-8 people but sometimes it could be only 3 but when someone is ready to get support they come.
I am humbled by the honesty they bring to the meeting. EVERYBODY deserves to recover.
I am also touched by the parents, partners and sometimes friends who I speak to who are so concerned about someone they love and are scared about what to say, how to say it, whether they will make it worse or not. An Eating Disorder is a serious illness that isolates, disrupts and threatens lives.
It can be treated!!
I wish I could wrap you all up in a blanket for a while and make it better.
I want to thank all the convenors who volunteer and run the groups in Hobart and soon (JULY) on the NW Coast.
The next mission will be in Launceston. I know there is a need there and I know there are people out there who have survived and recovered from an Eating Disorder either as a sufferer or a carer.
You may be ready to support TRED in giving families hope.
Take care... keep warm... look for the sunshine each day.
